The pint - the word means so much more than just a measurement. We all know what the word evokes and although the iconic unit is loved and unanimously used by Brits and Irish alike, most do not know how much it actually is - if it was a question on a pub quiz, many would be looking at their drinks in confusion. You may well be loyally ordering pints, but outside of beer drinking and milk cartons, it is almost meaningless.

How many pints in a keg?

So not only is the pint measurement unique, but when trying to match it with other beer quantities such as kegs, it becomes a mathematical nightmare. Of course, to add to this because very few things in life are simple, kegs all come in different shapes and sizes. Here we will try and break it down for you so we can all enjoy pints, kegs and bottles of beer with ease.

Converting imperial pints to litres is a simple calculation that you can apply to all volumes of keg. It might seem confusing but once you have the conversion formulae it’s very straightforward. There is also something else to also bear in mind - the British imperial pint is actually 20% larger than the American pint, so we will be sticking with the British pint for all calculations going forward.

The key numbers

1 UK Imperial pint = 0.56826125 litres or around 568 ml

1 litre = 1.8 pints

How many pints are in 2 litres?

If you’re a whizz at maths, this may seem obvious, but for many of us, this is a lot of calculations for what is a nice treat at the end of the day. But, to make sure you are getting a lot of bang for your hard-earned bucks, it is important to calculate how much is actually in kegs.

1 litre = 1.8 pints

so

2 litre keg = 3.5 pints or 7 half pints

and

 5 litre keg = 8.80 pints

We have many 5 litre kegs at Beerwulf: Affligem, Desperados, Heineken and more. You might see them referred to as Draught Kegs, ‘mini’ kegs or sometimes even party kegs. Due to their larger size, they are great for parties, picnics, and pizza nights. Unlike our other kegs they also don’t require a tap, you can draught straight from the vessel.
