The history of...Brouwerij Boelens
Boelens family originally comes from Lokeren. Brouwerij / Mouterij Boelens was founded around 1864. The Boelens family consisted of grain traders, malters and beer brewers. The brewery is located in Belsele and has always remained in the possession of the family. Around 1993 the brewery started to focus more and more on brewing various beers and only brewed it within their own walls. Quality is above quantity here. Kris Boelens (the current owner / brewer) is undoubtedly also a fan of Bieken, a soft honey beer. This beer was brewed from nostalgia to the Biekens from Sint-Niklaas. Another local beer is the Waaslander. This blond beer based on wheat has a spicy aftertaste. In Belsele and surroundings they are proud of Boelens, and the Bieken beer can be tasted in every café. The brewery can be visited by appointment. Belgian craftsmanship at its best.
